escape from drowning (Special to THE SUN) PALMERSTON N., Monday. A young man of HO, Robert Reid, v *as rescued from drowning by bis employer, Mr. S. P. Skinner, of Woodville. Reid was one of a. party of eight, including two children, bathing in the Manawatu River at Ballance Bridge We got into difficulties in water about 1* feet deep and near midstream. Attempts at rescue were made by Athol Pickering and Jim Boyd, but both failed. Mr. Skinner, however, b fought Reid ashore. Artificial respiration was applied and medical aid. did not recover fully for several hour*.
