EASY ON PETROL
HIGH FIGURES IN CLUB TEST The Hudson-Essex Motor Club of Sydney (owner-drivers) held a petrol test and hill climb on a recent Sunday, and the published results show some pretty high figures. The winner of the Hudson class, X. Smith, secured 34 m.p.g., and the second place fell to a driver who averaged 27 m.p.g. In the Essex class the winner got 49 m.p.g.. and the next man got 35 m.p.g. out of his car. The finishes in the hill climb were very close, in some cases only one and a-half seconds separating placed men. Running a car with a small amount of gasoline in the tank is bad practice. The fuel line will frequently pick up sediment or water from the bottom of the tank and cause carburettor trouble.
Watch the pressure of your tyres. It is safer to have a few pounds more pressure than to drive with the recommended pressure, which is the minimum. A few passengers cr some extra baggage may cause tyres to sag or bulge and break down the side walls.
