American Trade in England
Success of Small Cars Stir U.S. Expects Is England on the eve of a big attempt by American motor manufacturers to recapture their former position in the European markets? asks the London “Daily Mail.” Numbers of sales and technical experts from the big American corporations visited th© recent London Motor Olympia, and according to the “Daily Mail” this massing of American experts is considered in motor trade circles to be of more than usual significance. LOWER PRICES It was found at Olympia that English and other European cars of medium horse-power have now come down to th© American level. American manufacturers have always concentrated on the mediumpowered vehicle, and it is with this type that they have been able hitherto to beat Europe in the matter of price. The advent of the family car of 11 and 12 h.p., developed largely in Britain, France and Italy in recent years, affected the sales of American cars considerably. But although the American medium-powered car has lost ground it still holds a high place in all European markets. The competition it will have to meet in 1929, will, however, b© fiercer than hitherto.
