KING COUNTRY GROG
WHAT THREE POLICEMEN SAW SEIZURE OF 27 BOTTLES (From Our Oxen Correspondent) HAAIILTON, To-day. A charge of keeping liquor for sale at Taumarunui on August 11, 1928, in contravention of the prohibition law applying to King Country, was brought against Joseph AtacHin. Air. H. T. Gillies prosecuted for the Crown and Air. E. H. Northcroft appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty. Air. Gillies, addressing the jury, said tho prisoner had a motor business at Taumarunui and on August 11 a policeman found a large store of liquor* at tli© back of the premises. At 7.25 p.m. a man came out and took a bottle from the store. Three policemen who watched were attempting to seize him, when the man dashed back into the garage, locking the door. The policemen, looking through the windows, recognised MacHin, whom they knew well. They seized the whisky in the store —27 bottles. (Proceeding.)
