TREK TO THE CITIES
MUSSOLINI TO ACT BACK TO THE COUNTRY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) ROME, Friday. The Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini, calls attention to the fact that during the half-year ended June 30 the natural increase in the urban population of Italy was only 12,000, whereas in eight towns alone the Increase by rural Influx totalled 68,621. Signor Mussolini declares that he will within 18 months clear out the surplus immigrants from the country who have not found work in the towns, and will prevent any more from leaving the country. Italy, he says, is spending more than she can afford on bricks and mortar in the towns. The money would be better spent in reclaiming waste land and rebuilding decayed cottages.
