DESERTER FROM ANTONIO Carmelo Gauci, who left the steamer Antonio without leave when she was last in Auckland, has been sent to gaol to await the ship’s return to. Auckland. Gauci, a Maltese, aged 20, pleaded guilty at th© Police Court this morning to being absent without leave from the Antonio. A representative of Henderson and Macfarlane, the shipping agents, said that Gauci had left the ship before she sailed for the Islands. The Antonio was due back in Auckland on Friday. Gauci was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment and was ordered to be put aboard the ship if she sailed before the sentence had expired.
