OVER 11,000 BOY SCOUTS

PROGRESS IN DOMINION AUCKLAND ACTIVITIES Tlie Dominion census of Boy Scouts, taken during September, revealed an increase in strength ot 510. The total number is now 11,043. Although the increase is not as great as some of those in former years, a gratifying feature is the increase of 183 in the warranted ranks. This was reported at the annual meeting of the Boy Scouts’ Association in Wellington yesterday. During the year a new scout district has been formed in Southland. In addition to new troops being formed in the larger centres, 18 country troops have been formed. Dong-service medals have been granted to the following Auckland members: Mrs. A. E. M. Roughton, St. Aidan’s Pack; Mr. N. M. Matheson, St. James’s Troop; and Mr. A. J. Veart, assistant-cub Commissioner. In the balance sheet there is a credit balance of £ 3,434. Of this amount, £2,000 is in the reserve account, on a fixed deposit. In Auckland, three new companies of sea scouts, Hawke, Victory and Fame, have been formed. The new district commissioner is Mr. W. J. Holdsworth. Camping activities have been extensive. Scouts have given assistance in several drives for charity and the work in the whole district has advanced.
