EVEN THE MODERATOR

HAND-CLAPPING ORDER FORGOTTEN “The suggestion is made that there should be no applause until after the proposals,” the retiring Moderator, th** Rev. James Aitken, sternly told General Assembly to-day when nominations for the vacant of Knox College were being recenred. But after the third speaker there was again an outbreak of hand-clapping. Again the Moderator instructed ministers and elders that they must restrain themselves. The fourth speaker had his say and absent-mindedly the Moderator himself put his hands together in a few claps. He immediately recovered himself and Assembly enjoyed the situation.
