TE KUITI HURDLES FROTHBLOWER AGAIN (Special to THE SUNJ TE KUITI, To-day. The annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Racing Club was held at Te Kumi racecourse to-day under very favourable conditions, and there was a large attendance. The course was in excellent order. Results: KOPAKIHACK HURDLES Of £130; 11 miles 3 STAR OF THE EAST (G. Johnstone), ch g, by Day Comet—lhapuna, aged, 9.4, H. Dulieu 1 4 LADY SPALPEEN, 10.0, G. Holland 2 10 —TERRAPEEN, 9.0, Spinks 3 Also: 1 Stormy, 10.9; 5 Pekatahi (fell), 9.4; 6 Master Arch, 9.3; 2 Tinopono, 9.1; 7 Hangawera, 9.0; 8 Abbot’s Delight, 9.2; 9 Soami, 9.0. Won by five lengths, third two lengths away. Time, 3.15 4-5. Winner trained by owner. No tiling possessed a chance of beating Star of the East in the opening event. Stormy, of course, was a good favourite with £ 447, with fair support forthcoming also for Tinopono £264, Star of the East £lB4 and Lady Spalpeen £139, the last pair being at fine odds. Star of the East went to the front at the first hurdle, and passing the stands was clear of Abbot's Delight, Tinopono, Lady Spalpeen and Teerapeen, with the favourite having only one horse behind him. Down the back Tinopono ran into second place, with Abbot’s Delight, Lady Spalpeen, Terrapeen, Master Arch, Pekatahi and Stormy following in that order, the last named still being well behind. Crossing the top and into the straight Star of the East held a commanding lead of five lengths over Tinopono and Lady Spalpeen, with Terrapeen, Master Arch and Stormy next in order. From this out it was a procession. Star of the East finishing five lengths in front of Lady Spalpeen, “with the outsider Terrapeen another couple of lengths hack. Master Arch was fourth, and Tinopono, Stormy, Abbot’s Delight, Hangawera and Soami next to cross the line.

Five defections left 16 runners In the hack sprint, in which Takutama and Roman Abbey were bracketed, although the book did not show it. There was money for Frothblower £292, Kerry Dance, £287, and the bracket £272, with .Hone Heke £153 at the head of the others. Upoko was badly left, Takutama going out fast from Lady Cynic, Sulla, Hone Heke, Frothblower and Flying Tresses. Lady Cynic soon took up the running and was in charge across the top, attended by Takutama, Frothblower, Sulla and Hone Heke, Lady Cynic led into the straight from Frothblower, Takutama, Sulla and Flying Tresses. The leader compounded at the bottom of the straight, where Frothblower and Takutama joined issue, a good finish resulting in favour of Frothblower by a neck. Sulla was three lengths away in third berth, just in front of Lady Cynic, who appeared as if she needed a race. Next to finish were Flying Tresses, Maurea, Always and Roman Abbey. The winner started from 16th position arid registered a fine performance, the big marble probably being responsible for the nice price> although first favourite. Five defections left a field of eleven, and in a fair pool Monetize and Valroe monopolised the betting, the former carrying £525, or just one full ticket more than the actual winner. Of the others the best supported were Sports King £232 and Glena Bay £l4B. Archeval began best from Rose Arch, Valroe, Valuation, Ah Wera and Swiftlight, but it was not long before Rose Arch took up the running, to lead across the top from Valroe, Monetize, Ah Wera, Valuation and Archeval. Rose Arch was still making play in the van at the home turn, where she was attended by Monetize, Valroe, Ah Wera and Glena Bay. In the run up the j straight the favourite failed to come on, j and Valroe defeated Rose Arch by half J a length. A length away, was Glena j Bay, and Monetize was fourth, and Valuation, Ah Wera, Joke Form and j Sports King next in order. The fav- j ourite promises to do better next time J out. Winner trained by W. C. Woods. The defections of High Pitch, Papatu, Gold Rain and Bright Day left a bare two-dividend field for the big event. Betting was fairly well distributed, those havingthe call being Siaosi £629, The Lover £4lB, Schorr £390 and Transformer £343, the last-named coming in for surprisingly good support. A good start saw Tinokoa the early leader, being attended by King Smock, Siaosi. The Lover, Transformer * and Schorr. were together three lengths in front of the others. Crossing the top Tinokoa, King Smock and Siaosi were oil terms a length in front of The Lover, Schorr and Transformer, who were also in close order. The first three turned for home together, followed by Schorr, The Lover and Transformer, the last-named putting in a run. Once heads were turned for h as Transformer joined issue with and then Schorr, Transforr.: i.ng a. good race by hree parts - from Siaosi, with Schorr half a length back in third place. The Lover (who was pocketed badly at the home turn) was fourth, King Smock fifth, and Tinokoa last. Later results will appear in the Stop Press as they come to hand.
