are agreed that the real cause of our spiritual poverty lies in the decay of the family altar, with its resulting prayerlessness, passion for pleasure, Sabbath desecration and neglect of the public worship of God. In the opinion of our committee the decay of family religion is the taproot from which all our other troubles spring,” says the report of the Life and Work Committee to the General Assembly.
