Te Kuiti To Race at Home To-Morrow
AN INTERESTING PROGRAMME
THE racing season in the Auckland Province will be advanced a further stage this week-end. when the Te Kuiti Club will be at home for its fixture to-morrow and on Monday.
It is stated that the club's course at Te Kumi is in excellent order, despite the fact that it has not been raced on for nearly a couple of years, the last meeting having been held at Ellerslie. For the opening day to-morrow an excellent programme has been drawn up, the fields, especially in the hack events, being on the large side. Barrier position should be a factor in the spring events, for the turning course is such as to favour horses drawn close in. A special train leaves Auckland at G. 15 a.m. on Saturday and Monday for the course, arriving there at 11.12 a.m., the first race being timed to start at mid-day. The opening affair is the 12.0 KOPAKI HACK HURDLES
A half dozen that make some appeal comprise Stormy, Lady Spalpeen, Farndon, Peketahi, Tinopono and Ilangawera, and to fine them down still further does not, on paper, look difficult. Stormy’s recent showings incline backers to make him favourite, while Fkrndon will not lack friends. With 21 in the draw is almost vital in the 12.40 AWAKINO HACK Of £120; 6 fur.
Smart hack sprinters are Bcmbarder, Takutama, Hone Heke, Te Ngeru, Frothblower, Roman Abbey, Lady Cynic, Abbey Queen, The Jack Jumper, Upoko, and Monetize, so it will be seen that the race bears an open appearance, more especially as some of these claim later engagements. Bombarder and Monetize are two that will be heavily supported if saddled up here, and in their absence only would that game little galloper Te Ngeru be the favour- : ite. ! Class, as might be expected, is conspicuous by its absenee in the 1.25 MAIDEN HANDICAP
There is only a stone between the lot. Monetize figures here again, and it is probable that he will be sent for this race, and a right speedy sort he is too. Valroe was noticed putting in some good work in similar class at Te Rapa last month, and he will be first choice in the probable absence of Monetize, with Sports King another liable to come iji for fair backing. The big contest is the fourth item on the cards. 2.15 TE KUITI CUP
It is a nice sized field, of rather an even calibre. It is stated that at present there is some doubt as to High Pitch running, but the ground would want to be easy if he was to run and win. Papatu failed twice at Whangarei, but is better placed here. Siaosi may be the actual favourite, for his two efforts at Whangarei, for a third and a first, were marked by consistency and improvement. The only thing against him is the journey. Schorr is a real good sort, and one of the probables, but it has to be borne in mind that he
trio. However, in the field is the promising Bulolo, who may be sent out better backed than Bombarder. The following are some of the riding engagements made for to-morrow: R. McTavish. —Siaosi, Bombarder, The Thorn and Brampton. J. Cammick!—The Lover, Valroe, Sulla and New Moon. L. Manson.—Transformer, Whaka King and Waltzer. E. Manson.—Monetize and Bulolo. J. to show something of his true form. New Moon is said to be fancied in the right quarter, and these four at the top, together with Liaison, should be among the leaders at every stage. Tea Time and Macroom will probably carry most of the Investments. Nine remain in the 4.30 PUKETUTU HANDICAP
There are four that appear to dominate the position here, and they are The Lamb, Te Koroke, The Thorn and Mervette, and on the totalisator it should be an interesting struggle for the public’s favour. Te Koroke and The Thorn may be the actual favourites. The first day’s sport closes with the 5.15 OTOROHANGA HACK * Of £100; 6 furlongs
Several of these are engaged earlier in the day among them being Whaka King, Bombarder and Hakanoa, a likely
