TO-MORROW’S A.C.A. CRICKET

Parnell’s Big Chance

WITH the possibility of defeat looming up before University, the competition leaders, and with the second team. Ponsonby, lacing a big score against Grafton, the completion of the third matches of the Auckland Cricket Association's senior competition to-morrow promises to bi; very interesting.

Last week Parnell was all out for 208, and when rain held up play at 6 p.m.- Varsity had four of their best men (Smeeton, Dunning, (Jarrard and Schnauer) out for 41 runs. The side will face a stiff task when the game is continued to-morrow. Bush and Gee, the not out men, and their four club mates still to come, will be required to run UP 168 runs to lead on the first innings. PONSONBY’S FIGHT There are prospects, too, that Ponsonby will have a hard light on No. 1 wicket at Eden Park to overtake Grafton’s first innings score of 232. They have the men to do it, however, in Snedden. Smith. McLeod and Monteith—that is if nothing unexpected happens. Langridge, Allcott and Goodwin are a trio of bowlers which will make the •Ponies’* step out all the way, if they are going to get there. Suburbs, having succeeded in raising 200 last week, will be chiefly concerned with the task of keeping a strong flatting side —Eden —from reaching that

chances in the Y.M.C.A.-North Shore match appear to be fairly even, with the odds, if anything, in favour of the home side. The Young Men knocked up 118 in their first effort last week, while Shore has 85 on for 3. Without attempting to anticipate the unexpected, without which no cricket match is ever complete, Parnel, Grafton, Eden and North Shore should have the best chances of winning to-morrow. Combined marching, a display of handicrafts, and pageants are featured ! in the ambitious programme which has ’ been mapped out to exceed even the interest roused at the demonstration j last year. In all 1,500 Guides and 500 Brownies I will parade, all the troops in the Auck- . land city and suburban districts being ri represented. Nearly all the country . districts between Waiuku and Puke- ’ kohe in the south, and Waimauku in _ the north, will send Guides, and the - gathering will be thoroughly representative. All Guides will parade in the march past, led by the Brownies, and the salute will be taken by the chief commissioner for New Zealand, Mrs. ’ W. R. Wilson, who will be accompanied by Dr. Buckley Turkington, the Auckland provincial commissioner. In the feature item the guides will " form a living map of the world, in l * which will be combined a series of pageants showing the planting of the British flag in the colonies and the spread of the Guide movement throughout the world. Among other events on the programme are a series of historical pageants depicting the lives of great figures of the past who exemplify the ten points of the guide law. At the • same time the guides will demonstrate II how these principles are carried into effect.
