ORPHANAGE WORK
119 CHILDREN CARED FOR METHODIST ACTIVITY REVIEWED Methodist orphanages in the province are caring for 119 children. Forty-two are at the Wesley Home, 32 at the Epwortli Home, 45 at the Epsom Home, a;nd several of the elder boys are being boarded out under supervision. This was reported to the Auckland District Synod of the Methodist Church at yesterday’s session. During the year the . matron at the Mount Albert Home, Miss Armitage, had retired after eight years’ service, and her successor was Miss Johnston, from Canada. To avoid a heavy overdraft on the current account it had been found necessary to entrench on capital. The sum of £221 had been received on account of legacies announced last year, but this had been required for current expenditure. The capital debt stood at over £7,000, interest amounting to £ 410 a year. To reduce the capital debt as soon as possible it was hoped to extend through the different districts a system of annual subscriptions. The Rev. George Bond and Messrs. J. Trounson and A. C. Caughey had been appointed life members of the board of management, while the secretary and president of thd ladies’ committee had been appointed ex officio members of the executive board.
