“Heartless”
Sydney Rogue Robs Man From Whangarei TALL STORY TOLD Reed. 5.55 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. John Sutherland, aged 49, of Whangarei, New Zealand, a recent arrival in Sydney, formed an acquaintance with Dennis Finn in the city. Sutherland listened attentively to a tall story about a cane farm in Queensland, which Finn was supposed to own. Finn induced Sutherland to advance money for implements, on a promise that Sutherland would be employed there at f 1 Is a day. The Whangarei man went to Brisbane, where he discovered he had been duped. He was compelled to walk nearly the whole way back to Sydney, owing to being “broke.” He told his story at the City Police Court, and Finn (who was described by the magistrate as “a heartless fellow”) was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
