Mr. Justice Keed left by the Limited f&st evening for Wellington. Mr. R. A. Lippineott returned from the South this morning on the Limited. Sir James Gunson has left Auckland to visit his son, who lives near Gisborne. Dr. J. PL Bennett was a passenger for Wellington by the Limited last evening. The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., left Auckland by train last evening for Wellington. Mr. G. S. Lynde, chief mechanical engineer. New Zealand Railways, is visiting Thames. Dr. F. J. Rayner, who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Auckland this morning on the Limited. Mr. and Mrs. If. C. Ernest, of Papatoetoe, left by the Limited express last evening on a holiday to Dunedin. Mr. V. Hilliam, of Dargaville, who has been touring the Continent, will probably be back in New Zealand before Christmas. Colonel H. R. Potter. C.M.G., officer commanding the Northern Command, returned from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Mr. B. M. Wilson, general manager of the Tourist Department, who has been visiting Rotorua, left for Wellington on Tuesday evening. Lieutenant-Colonel D. B. Blair. ot Whangarei, of the New Zealand Staff Corps, is visiting Auckland. He is staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. W. J. Holds worth left last evening for Wellington by the Limited. He wilt attend a meeting of the Dominion Council of the Boy Scouts and return on Saturday. Captain G. D. Dittmer, M.C., N.Z.S.C., adjutant of the Ist Battalion, Waikato Regiment, has been appointed staff officer in charge of the regimental district at Paeroa. Archdeacon E. M. Cowie, of Hamilton, was operated on in the Waikato Hospital yesterday for leg trouble which had caused him inconvenience for a long time. He is making good progress. Dr. Malcolm Brown, one of the four senior medical officers appointed by the Mental Hospitals Department, will leave London for New Zealand on November 23. Dr. G. M. Tothill, another of the four officers, left on November 9. Dr. W P. Gowland. professor of anatomy at the Otago University, has been awarded a travelling fellowship by the Rockefeller Institute. He been granted leave of absence for 12 months, during which time he will visit the principal departments of anatomy in America and Europe. Mr. 11. E. West, newly-appointed chemist to the Wheat Research Committee, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr. West, a Canadian, comes from the Agricultural College of the University of Manitoba, where he was an expert in wheat research. He will take up his duties immediately. HOTEL REGISTER Grand.—Mr. W.
