TOOK OTHER MAN’S BEER
CARTER STARTS A FIGHT William Preston stole William Fitzsimmons’s beer. A constable stopped the fight shortly afterwards. Preston, a carter, aged 42, and Fitzsimmons, a labourer, aged 40, pleaded guilty to fighting in the street. In the opinion of Sub-Inspector McCarthy, Preston started the fight by stealing Fitzsimmons's beer. Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., dismissed the charge against Fitzsimmons, remarking that all he did was to protect his beer, which was quite natural. Preston, who said tha£ lie could remember nothing of the occurrence, was fined £2 for assault and a further £2 for obscene language, which he admitted using in a hotel bar.
