WRIT AGAINST CITY
CATHEDRAL SQUARE NOW LEGAL BATTLE CHRISTCHURCH DISPUTE ' fSpecial to THE SVNJ CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Cathedral Square is to become the subject of litigation in the Supreme Court. This is the culmination of the strife surrounding the proposal to carry out certain Improvements, including the erection of public conveniences, in the Square. Following the decision of the City Council to proceed immediately -with Its scheme and to call tenders for the work, Mr. George Gould, chairman „f the "Save the Square” committee announces that the writ applying for an injunction to restrain the City Council from proceeding with the erection of buildings in Cathedral Square had received the assent of the AttorneyGeneral. “The writ will be lodged In the Supreme Court at ouce and served on the solicitor for the City Council forthwith,” said Mr. Gould. The Mayor, Rev. J. K. Archer, slated subsequently that the writ had been served on the city solicitor and he would take all necessary steps to safeguard the Interests of the city. “An endeavour will bo made to get the case heard before Christmas, as we wish to know what the position is as soon as possible,” said the Mayor. “In the meantime the question of calling for tenders for the work will be held in abeyance."
