A BRIGHTER tone prevails on the market and considerable business has been transacted. South British Insurance are firm, with sales at 645.

Tn the banking section. Adelaides have steady buyers at £9 19s, Hank of New Zealands are selling at 61s 9d, Union of Australia have many buyers. Insurance shares are in demand, though little business has been reported on ’Change. Auckland Gas shares are selling at 23s 4d, leaving little change in the market. Gisborne Gas have buyers at 9s with no shares offering.^ Shipping is steady, Howard Smith having keen buyers at 23s 6d, Huddart Parker, both ordinary and preference, are in demand, while P. and O. and Union Steam have jiumerous buyers. Timber shares are unquoted, with the exception of Kauri. Buyers have advanced 3d. leaving the market with buyers 19s 9d, sellers 21s. • * * N.Z. Farmers’ Fertiliser have eager buyers at 17s 3d, with no sellers. Union Oil and Candle are also sought after at 40s *>di Wilsons Portland Cement are

exceptionally firm, with buyers 41s. sellers 41s 6d. Waihi scrip eased one penny a share at first call this morning.
