POLES BREAK GAOL
TUNNEL MADE WITH HANDS (United Service) (Received 11.55 p.m.) WARSAW, Tuesday. By scooping with their hands a tunnel 30yds long and over 3ft high. 16 convicts escaped from Grudzindz prison, Pomerania, in a manner reminiscent of the Count of Monte Cristo. Their absence was not noticed for several hours. Some of the fugitives raided a tailor’s shop and secured civilian clothes. They then stole a motor-car. None of them has been recaptured.
