BODIES IN A CHIMNEY
YOUTH AND CHILD MYSTERY AT BALLARAT (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Rec. 10.50 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. Four months ago, Robert Virtue, of Ballarat, reported to the police that his daughter Harriet, aged four, had gone for a walk with William Hiddle, aged 18, and failed to return. The police were unable to trace the missing youth and child. The mystery of their disappearance was explained to-day when the bodies of Hiddle and the girl were found concealed lu a chimney in a house at Ballarat. The police are baffled concerning the affair. MURDERER TO DIE CRIME IN VICTORIA Reed. II a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. William Wateson Carr was sentenced to death for the murder of Margherita Williams. - i The police received advice that Margherita Williams, aged 25 and single, was found dead in a house at Wonthuggi with her throat cut by a razor (said a Melbourne message of September 28). The dead womans sister-in-law, Mrs. Williams, stated that deceased and a man had lunch with her. Shortly after she (Mrs. Williams) left the room she heard screams, and on returning she found Margherita dead on the floor-. The man, who was a boarder in the house, had disappeared. GIRL FACES CHARGE POISONED TEA ALLEGED Reed. 11 a.m. ADELAIDE, To-day. A girl, aged 16, was remanded in the Children's Court on a charge of having attempted to murder Matthew and Amelia Kennedy by administering poison. The girl had Jjeeu in the employ of the Kennedys, and while she was pouring out the tea Kennedy noticed that the tea had a dark colour. A green sediment was found in the teapot.
