The car was damaged to the extent of £4O. and expenses amounting to £lO 2s Id were incurred in getting the car back to Wellington. Corrin had been fined at Te Kuiti for obtaining petrol by falsp pretences and driving without a licence. Corrin asked for probation. The Magistrate: You take a valuable car and misuse it in this way, and expect to be treated as you suggest. The offence is treated leniently by the Legislature. The maximum penalty is only three months. This eluss of offence is a serious one and is | becoming very prevalent. Three I months’ imprisonment.
