PRESENTATION TO SERGEANT McDonnell
Sergeant A. McDonnell, of Thames, who- is retiring after 32 years’ service in the police force, was the recipient of a presentation in the Thames Police Court on Monday. Mr. E. J. Clendon, on behalf of the local solicitors, said that Sergeant McDonnell had conscientiously served his country, and -was now retiring with a good record.* He had pleasure in presenting Sergeant McDonnell with a case of pipes on behalf of the Thames Bar, as a memento of the affection and esteem in which they held him. Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., said he had found SeY-geant McDonnell a zealous and capable officer. He complimented him on his fine record. Sergeant McDonnell said it had been his ambition to retire from the force with “a clean sheet,” and having achieved this he was content to retire. Sergeant McDonnell was for some time in charge of the Queen's Wharf Water Police Station, and was very popular in shipping circles.
