KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS A meeting of the executive of the Taumarunui District Branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was presided over by the president, Airs. Barker, with Alesdames Anderson. Carter, McKay, Robinson, Ford, Coates, Homershani and Coogan in attendance. Apologies were received from Mesdames Shield, Peek, Gemmell and Crocker. The definite resignation through ill-health of the secretary, Mrs. C. J. Ryan, was

received with deep regret, and it was resolved to ask Airs. Coogan to carry on the duty in the meantime. During the summer the branch will hold meetings every third Tuesday, as its growing activities warrant close attention. Next month will witness the anniversary of the formation of the branch, and it has been resolved to hold a big birthday party to celebrate the occasion. Airs. Poison, the Dominion president, and Airs. C. P. Jackson, Dominion treasurer, will be invited to attend, and it is hoped that all of the 200 members will be present and bring friends if desired. Airs. Anderson, of Owliango, has undertaken to provide the birthday cake, and prizes for competitions will be donated by Alesdames Coates, AlcKay, Barker and Ford. The great popularity of the branch’s housekeeper continues unabated, and her services are in constant demand At the present time, in addition to Miss McKay, who covers the local work, two assistants are in the district, and all are constantly employed. It is probable no part of the organisation’s activities is more valued than *his, which provides tired and overworked women with the opportunity to rest and recuperate at a moderate cost, and gives expectant mothers the chance to secure efficient help when it is most needed. A suggestion that the branch should hold a picnic during the holidays is to be considered at the next meeting, and in the meantime memare asked to forward suggestions for conducting such an event. The Mayoress of Taumarunui, Airs. G. E. Manson, gave a very pleasant evening at her residence in aid of the Anglican Church funds. There were many present, and the programme included musical items by Mrs. Bell, Atiss Grice and Aliss Edwards. Several competitions were conducted, the winners being Mrs. Keller, M.rs. Jones, Mrs. F. Homersham and Airs. Seddon Hills. The hostess dispensed a delicious supper.

The women of the Anglican Church at Ongarue have conducted a very successful bazaar in aid of the finances, particularly the stipend fund. The event was opened by Mr. A. H. Delaney, who referred to the unselfish and Ch,ristian-like spirit exhibited by the various workers. The following were the prize-winners: Mrs. W. Heayns, home-made bread, sponge role, and iced sponge sandwich; Airs. R. F. Gardiner, nut loaf; Mrs. Pitcher, shortbread; Aliss A. West, plain scones and seed cake; Mrs. D. J. Gardiner, pikelets and date scones;, Mrs. Williams, gingerbread and plain sponge sandwich; All's. G. West, pastry; Airs. G. Brunton, ilb cake.
