OHAKUNE INTERESTS The Ohakune School Committee has received a handsome donation of shrubs and hedge plants from Messrs. Davis and Bennett, of Palmerston North. The consignment arrived in good condition and has been p'.anted. • * * At a meeting of the Ohakune Tennis Club, presided over by Mr. L. G. North, the resignation of the secretary was accepted with regret. Mr. R. A. Robbie has been duly elected to till the position. It was reported that the courts were now in excellent playing order, having been recently top-dressed. Several competitions were arranged and are to „be played at an early date. Good progress has been made with the reconstruction work of the electric lines in Ohakune. and the Public Works inspector when recently paying his visit of inspection expressed satisfaction with the progress made. ROTORUA NOTES The weekly luncheon of the Rotorua Rotary Club* was held in the Government Tea Kiosk yesterday. There was a srood attendance. Mr. J. M. Roberts presided and welcomed visitors from Hamilton and Gisborne. Mr. J. IT. Southwick gave a most interesting lecture on the value of vitamines. . # The Rotorua Fire Brigade was called out yesterday morning to an outbreak of fire in some scrub on Whaka Road which endangered property near by. The brigade soon extinguished the fire, and no damage was done. Mr. F. C. Bunyard, borough engineer, reports that a start was made yesterday with top-dressing the foopaths near the Ferry Company’s corner, Tutanekai Street. • WAIKATO PRESENTATIONS The locomotive foreman at Frankton, Mr. R. A. Walker, Was entertained by his fellow-employees in the railway service at a social on Saturday evening, prior to his departure on promotion for Auckland. Mr. Walker has been at Frankton for three years. He was presented with a wristlet watch, and Mrs. Walker received a similar present. A farewell has been tendered by the Hamilton East parishioners to the Rev. H. G. Sell and Mrs. Sell. Mr. Sell has been appointed vicar of Oxford, Canterbury. During the 18 months Mr. and Mrs. Sell have been in Hamilton East they have endeared themselves to the people. Mr. Sell has done excellent work among the parishioners. A site has been procured for a new church, tiie Sunday school has been established, and the ladies’ guild has raised £3OO. Mr. Sell received a well-tilled wallet, and Mrs. Sell was given a manicure set.

Three point win* were sfPcured by Ngatea, Waitakaruru and Orongo. At Waitakaruru the home team completed its first innings, making 11 runs, of which A. Kenny secured 35 (retired), and C. Stretton 31. Kopuarahi made 52 for its second inning*, bringing its total to 142, and Waitakiiruru made 49, winning the match by 2‘runs. Batting for Kopuarahi, C. * ; - Lawrence made 14 and T. McKay 1" while the bowling honours went to R. Green, 3«for 11, and E. Gill, 3 for H A. Christian, of YVaitakaruru, made 11 runs and E. Duffin and L. Berney 1" each, while E. Duffin took 3 wickets for 9 and C. Stretton 6 for 23. In the Ngatea-Pipiroa match the scores brought forward from the previous week were, Ngatea 29 and Pipiroa 36 for 2 wickets. On Saturday, the rest of the Pipiroa team was dismissed for nine and Ngatea closed its second innings at £9 for 8 wickets. Pipiroa secured 23 only, Ngatea thus winning the match by 59 runs and - wickets. For Pipiroa, H. Dalgety was top scorer with 8, while the bowling went to E. Lang, 2 for 9, and J. Knox. 5 for 50. In the Ngatea team 8. Phillips made 29, W. O’Neil 21, N Boyne 16 and F. Nicol 11 not out, while the bow'ling honours went to S. Phillips, with 5 wickets for 1, W. O’Ned. 1 for 1, and F.
