DEARER PLUMBING?

INCREASE WAGES ASKED Auckland plumbers and gasfitters seek an increase in the minimum wage from 2s 3d to 3s an hour and the extension of the new award to 12 months. The claim was the subject of a meeting of representatives of employers and employees, presided over by Mr. P. Hally, conciliation commissioner, yesterday, when the Auckland plumbers and gasfitters’ award which will expire on December 6, was discussed. Assessors for the employers were Messrs. W. Anderson (for the Employers’ Association), W. J. Cross, F. V. Hoffman and S. V. Menzies, and for the employees, Messrs. I. Clark (agent), J. E. Slattery and H. A. Tattersall. Agreement was arrived at on all disputed points much on the same lines as the present award, with the exception that several matters conconcerning the rate of wages, the overtime clause and the preference to unionists clauses are to be referred to the Arbitration Court.
