BANANAS SCARCE In the City Markets to-day, repacked bananas were scarce and values were high. PEARS are difficult to clear at even the low rates quoted. Large quantities of local apples have been sold from the cool storage during the past week. Low prices are ,ruling and the buying is slack. Strawberries have increased in value during the past few days. Regular quantities are coming forward. Sydney Valencia oranges are selling fairly freely. Hothouse tomatoes showed a decrease in price to-day. There is a poor inquiry for lemons. At to-day’s sale gooseberries were lower in value. Heavy stocks of vegetables are held. New potatoes are in abundant supply. New season’s marrows have made their appearance. * Quotations: FRUIT Apples: Sturmers, 5s to 8s; Delicious, 4s to 7s 6d; Dougherty, 4s 6d to 7s; Granny Smith, 9s to 12s; Pride of Australia, 4s to 8s; Canadian Jonathan, Canadian Delicious and Canadian Grimes Golden, 14s to 16s 6d.
