WHY THE DIFFERENCE? A T the recent Addington fixture Nourmahal, who looked like being second in the trot on the middle day, was not driven right out to the post, and her driver was fined £lO for not doing his best. On Saturday at Epsom a similar position arose, but was allowed to go unchallenged. In the Stewards’ Handicap Firelight, a warm favourite, carrying almost £2,000 on the machine, appeared to have every chance of getting second and saving his large army of supporters at least some portion of their outlay, but he was not persevered with and finished third. Backers of Native Prince at Hamilton last March will remember that driver Shaw was also fined * tenner for not pushing his c b* r 9* into second place. How, then, did the driver of Firelight escape detection on Saturday?
