The death has occurred of Captain Appleton, commander of three Cunard liners, Including the Aquitania when during a voyage from Liverpool to Gallipoli she carried 6,000 troops and a crew of 1,000. He was the originator of zig-zagging to thwart submarines. Captain Appleton was 64 years of age.
