WOMAN BRUTALLY ASSAULTED
Young Farm-Hand Arrested FARMER’S WIFE STRUCK WITH CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, To-day. rE second serious assault committed in the Franklin district within a week occurred at Mangatawhiri Valley on Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Lily Keith, wife of Richard Knight Keith, a farmer, being the victim. The aggressor is alleged to be Donald Sharp, a youth of 18 years, employed by Keith.
After lunch Sharp was assisting }lrs. Keith to wash the dishes, her husband being absent. Without any varoing Sharp is alleged to have taken a club from the wall in the hall and struck Mrs. Keith several heavy blows. She was held down by Sharp, but managed to break away, slamming the door behind her. The woman made her way to a
neighbour's place, where s*he collapsed at the gate. The police were communicated with. When Constable Douglas arrived he met Sharp walking along the road with two portmanteaux. He was apprehended and taken into custody. Sharp was formally charged at Pukekohe Court this morning before Mr. C. K. Lawrie, J.P., and remanded, in custody, until November 27.
