NEW WEEKLY SECURES BIRKENHEAD’S SERVICES
(Australian and N.Z Pt'ess Association) LONDON. Thursday. The Earl of Birkenhead has signed a contract with the proprietors of the new weekly paper “Britannia” to write exclusively for it for a number of years. Since his resignation from the Cabinet there has been considerable speculation as to which newspaper would secure Lord Birkenhead’s much-sought journalistic services.
Captain Hurley left Wyndham, in Western Australia, on November 5, attempting to fly to England in 10 days. In his plane, Spirit of Australia, he left Karachi at daybreak on Wednesday for Bushire. After proceeding 100 miles he met storms, and experienced engine trouble. Eventually he reached Bunder Abbasi. Persian officials intimated- that the party had no permit to land, and ordered them to leave as soon as possible. An armed guard was placed in charge of the plane.
