AIR AMBITION

AERO CLUB BRANCH FOR KAITAIA (From Our Own Correspondent) KAITAIA, To-day. A meeting of those interested in aviation was held in the Princess Theatre, Kaitaia, last evening, when Mr. M. D. Laurenson, pilot-instructor to the Whangarei Aero Club, outlined a proposal for. Kaitaia to form a branch of that club. The speaker thought the proposal more suitable than the separate formation of a local club, as the finance of small clubs is difficult. Excellent landing-grounds are available in the district, and when two plans were available, Whangarei pupils could receive instruction at Kaitaia for Certificate A. Mr. Laurenson spoke enthusiastically on the thrills of flying. “It is a thousand times better than motoring,*' he said. “You are operating in all dimensions and you have from horizon to horizon to manoeuvre in.” The Government’s proposals regarding the encouragement of flying clubs were fully outlined, beginners’ lessons were described and questions answered. The meeting resolved to form a Kaitaia branch of the Whangarei Club, 12 active members being enrolled, including one woman. A committee was formed consisting of Messrs. R. A. Johnston, J. Stimpson, S. Holder, J. Archibald and C. Barker. The president is Mr. R. A. Johnston, and the secretary Mr. J. Stimpson.
