PORTABLE LAMPS
UNSUSPECTED USES DON’T STRAIN EYES No one has any excuse for straining the eyes through reading, sewing or doing anything at all in dark corners while there are possibilities for good, clear light in every bouse where there is electricity. As there are few places where electricity has not been installed, work in badly-lighted rooms is quite out of order. The little adjustable electric lamp solves the difficulty, and since it has been on the market for some time, should be found in far more homes than it is. It is not designed to take the place of overhead lighting, but to supplement the light shed by the big lamp by casting a direct glow over the book you are reading in a corner, or the firje sewing which will certainly strain your eyes unless you can see clearly exactly where you are stitching. The portable lamp will perch anywhere you like, on the back of a chair, or bed, over the stove if the kitchen light is not suitably placed, or above the mirror of your dressing-table. In fact, there is no end to its uses. It can be unclipped from its perch to help in a search of the floor for a lost needle, in choosing a book from dark shelves, or even in chasing a spider from his retreat behind a picture! Motorists have used them for a long time when poring over the engines of their cars, and it is not at a *\ unusual to see *a home gardener using one to light his wajk in a snail hunt.
