Prince’s Whiskers AN AFRICAN FROLIC Bare Legs and a Fez IRST pictures published in London papers of the Prince of Wales's African tour show H.R.H. in an outrageous costume, barelegged, and wearing a huge fez, gigantic mustacliios, and fearsome black m heard —his makeup as bar b e r’s mate in the Crossing the Line ceremony. Though a few of the old school profess themselves shocked at the exposure of the Royal toes, no Press controversy has arisen such as marked the publication of photographs of the South American visit. On that occasion (says the London correspondent of the Sydney “Guardian”) the Prince was shown dressed as a flapper and partnered by a wellknown London newspaper man at a concert of H.M.S. Renown. An attempt was then made to make members of the Prince’s suite suppress publication of the photographs. It was even rumoured that the Queen was annoyed, but the fact that the Prince took a different view is shown by his open flouting of Royal convention in the present photographs.
