Vogue of Black Persists

Sombre Race Frocks

Colour in Accessories

At the dawn of a season in which fashion is more varied, and more colourful than it has been for some time, it was perhaps a little disappointing to see liow dull and distressingly sensible in their frocking women were at the opening of the Otahu’iu Trotting Club’s spring meeting at Alexandra Park to-day. Nearly all the nicest dresses were the black ones, or those of navy blue. “If in doubt, wear black,” would seem to have been the motto chosen by a large proportion of the women present, whether their choice fell on satin, crepe de chine, georgette or a suit of sterner fabric. The rest of them wore tailored suits of tweeds or jumper suits of woollen weave for the most part, with only at odd intervals a frock or ensemble of pretty, flimsy colourful stuff. Scarves and hats were left to provide most of the colour on the course, and they did that in no half-hearted fashion. Among those present were: Mrs. W. S.
