May Not Race Again According to latest information it is extremely doubtful if Prince Humphrey will race again. In the V.R.C. Derby the colt was galloped on, a tendon in a hind leg being completely severed. Paeroa's Day To-morrow The non-totalisator meeting to be held at Paeroa to-morrow (Saturday) promises to be a complete success. A capital list of acceptances has been received for the seven events forming the programme, and with fine weather a good day’s sport should result. The absence of the totalisator will ensure the success of the fixture from the purely sporting standpoint, but those who like to “have a flutter" can do so per the medium of sweepstakes. These are strictly limited to tickets of not more than five shillings each, with no commission to be deducted. Levin's One Day To-morrow’s fixture holding most importance to North Islanders is that , at Levin, the capital of the Horowhenua district. Acceptances must constitute a record for the club. Not Eligible The Eka figuring in the Maiden at Levin to-morrow* should be the three-year-old Tcheka, but the latter is not eligible for the .race, which is for horses which have not won an advertised flat race at time of starting. Tcheka won at Masterton on October 13, over a fortnight before nominations closed. Round the Corner For the Levin meeting, to be held tomorrow*, the fields are large, too large, in fact, for the conformation of the course, which is mostly corners. It is always an enjoyable fixture, how- \ ever, and one of the best of the many
interesting picnic gatherings outside the centres of the Wellington Province. Her Second Attempt Horomea won at her first start over the sticks, this being at Waverley on Labour Day, and she is again in a similar event to-morrow* at Levin. The last Connolly Handicap winner ought to go well, too, with Lieutenant Bill as the horse most likely to bother her over the concluding part. Vote for Shining Star There is sure to be some scrambling for positions early in the AVeraroa Hack, and good beginners and a small marble are the essentials to success. A couple of fair sorts in Gasnapper and Teremoana are engaged, and perhaps they will be able to do as well as any of the field. It is in favour of Shining Star that he is a smart beginner. Poor Maidens Not much is known of the bunch in the Maiden, those to have shown a bit of form being Flying Binge, Skyrider, Balloon, Vexillum, Iciogne, Cloyne, Teremoana, Vaucluse and Cavity. Of this lot the best may perhaps be Teremoana and Skyrider. Speedy Hacks If Lady Quex is started in the Make Mako Hack to-morrow the filly will take a lot of beating. She is also in the five-furlong flutter, which will suit her still better, so if reserved for that Arrow Boy and Orcades may have their chance. Blimp’s Prospects It takes a fair-class horse to win the Levin Cup, for it is a case of go all the way from the rise of the barrier to keep position. There are no less than 19 left in this event to-morrow, including a few* who showed some form at Riccarton last week. Close together in the handicaps are Blimp and Shining Armour, and this pair may be the elect of backers. May Be Suited One would not pick bold atriders such as Kalos and Tanagra to be suited by the Levin course, but the opposition they are down to meet in the Lake Hack there to-morrow is such as to lead one to favour them, for- the field will not be a large one, about ten runners at the most. Have Early Speed The Levin open sprint, the McDonald Memorial, is run over six furlongs instead of seven, as it used to be previous to the last meeting. Two that should be able to handle the turning course with credit are Callanmore and Helotis, and these two promise to come in for good backing if they are allowed to take their chance. The Scurry Probably 18 out of the 24 in the final Levin event, the Hokio Hack, five furlongs, will be deprived of their chances for winning within the first furlong, for the start is badly situated, and the winner ought to come from one of the first half-dozen away from the tapes. Speed merchants like Lady Quex and Dry Area should do well, but even if they get a big marble all their pace may not pull them through. Related to Te Monanui | The Ellerslie trainer. X. Cunning-
ham, has recommissioned the four-year-old gelding Standfast, who hos been an absentee from headquarters for some months. Standfast has taken no harm from liis spell, and at present is looking robust. It i*worthy of note that Standfast is . half-brother (by Vulkyrian) to Te Monanui and Ohincmuri. Ready for Takapuna Whether Gold Money wins the Tak;> puna Plate or not at the end of the month, the opinion is advanced that she is one of the smartest gallopers in attendance at Ellerslie. The racing Gold Money has had lately has left her in line order, it will certainly not be for lack of condition If she falls to perform prominently in her near-at-hand engagements. Not His Day Some trainers are unusually luck\, while others are the reverse. In th latter category is the Ellerslie trainer, W. Gall. His team has not been strong for quite a period, but still, it had possibilities. Through misfortune he ha only two in work at present, one of them, Restaurant, having been troubled with lameness for the past month, while Sleepy Sol is not looking too bright. Gall w*ill shortly make an addition to his stable, a two-year-old, and it is to be hoped that he reaps a richer harvest than his previous charges have given him. Kilbroney On Top Through the agency of Oratrix and Concentrate, Kilbroney topped the list Of winning sires at Riccarton, with £ 1,920, Paper Money being next with £1,340, and Night Raid in third plaewith £1,225.
