GERMAN CABINET CRISIS
SPLIT OVER NEW CRUISER PRESIDENT INTERVENES (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) BERLIN, Thursday. The President, Marshal von Hindenburg, intervened in a sensational manner on the eve of to-day’s debate in the Reichstag on a Socialist motion against the proposed building of a 10,000-ton cruiser. The President, in an interview with the Chancellor, Herr Mueller, declared with great emphasis in favour of the cruiser, and virutally ordered the Socialist Ministers not to take part in the voting. At a meeting of the Socialist Party last evening, however, it was decided that the whole party must vote in favour of the motion. The decision is binding on the Chancellor and the three other Socialist Ministers, those of the Interior, Finance and Labour. A situation has thus been created which may result in the fall of the Government, but it is believed this will be averted.
