Grand Yacht Parade
BOATING SEASON OPENS CRUISING AND HARBOUR RACES' With a grand parade of most of the pleasure yachts and launches on the Waitemata harbour, the yachting season in Auckland will be officially opened to-morrow afternoon.
The arrangements are under the control of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, the administrative body of the sport in this city. The large keel yachts, mullet boats and launches will compete in their several classes in races to Islington Bay, Rangitoto. All open boats will race within harbour limits. Ail events will bo started from the watch-tower on the King’s Wharf, the first race, that for first and second-class keelers, being timed to start at 2.30. The racing officials will be: Starter, Mr. H. R. Arthur; assistant starter, Mr. G. Mobberley; judge for harbour races, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; time-keepers, Messrs. A. J. Collings and G. E. Laycock; judge, cruising races, Mr. E. J. Kelly; time-keeper, Mr. W. D. Ross. Starting times are as follow: A and B classes, 2.30 p.m.; C and E, 2.38; II and I, 2.46; L and N, 2.54; launches, 3.2; M class, 3.10; V and Star, 3.15; S, 3.26; T, X and Y classes, 3.34; Z class, 3.42.
Courses are as follow; Cruising Races A and B Classes.—From starting-line between the end of King’s Wharf and " mark moored north, thence round outside of Rangitoto and Motutapu, finishing between the launch Linda and mark in Islington Bay. The sandspit beacon. Bean Rock lighthouse, and the red buoy off Narrow Neck must be observed as fairway marks, but other fairway marks are to be disregarded. C and E Classes, and All Mullet Boats. —From starting-line off King’s Wharf, thence round Duder’s Spit buoy in Rangitoto Channel on starboard, keeping channel side of the sandspit beacon. Bean Rock lighthouse and the luminous buoys (going out and returning), and the red beacon off Rangitoto near Islington Bay, and finishing between the launch Linda and mark-boat. Launches.—From starting line, direct to Islington Bay, observing Sandspit beacon, Bewi Rock lighthouse, and the red beacon Hght off Rangitoto. Harbour Races star, M, V, a. and All 14ft. Classes.— From starting line, thence round sandspit beacon, thence round Resolution buoy, thence round outer mark of starting line, twice round, finishing across starting line and rounding all marks on starboai'd. The course may be reversed. ! in which case marks.will be kept on port! hand. A white flag will indicate first to Sandspit and a black flag Resolution buoy.
