GIRLS’ SPORTS DAY INTER-HOUSE CARNIVAL TO-MORROW’S BIG PROGRAMME Postponed last week owing to bad weather conditions, the big annual inter-house girls’ sports carnival will be staged at Carlaw Park to-morrow afternoon. Thousands of would-be spectators were turned away from the park last I Saturday. The excellence of the programme in previous years has this year been augmented by new and novel events, and the 400 joyously lit girls have undergone extra training. Another record attendance is assured for to-morrow. Four teams will compete for final points, namely, Greer’s, Milne and Choyce, Smith and Caugliey, and George Court’s. The general excellence of the teams is such that a keen competition will result, and whichever team wins will indeed be outstanding. The competition will be followed as last year with a grand display by the twelve competing teams.
COOK STRAIT CONTESTANT According to a Press Association nessage from Ashburton, the wellknown distance swimmer. Miss Lily Copplestone, announces her Intention of making- an attempt to swim Cook Strait during- the forthcoming season. A start will be made from the top of Queen Charlotte Sound.
