EVERYBODY’S
“THE WISE WIFE” A wise wife is a woman who refuses to allow another woman to possess herself of her husband without fighting to retain his love. This is the impression one gets when one sees the fine De Mille picture, “The Wise Wife,” which was shown for the first time at the Everybody’s Theatre last evening. The featured players are Phyllis Haver, Tom Moore, Jacqueline Logan and Joseph Striker. Miss Haver is the wife, Mr. Moore the husband, Miss Logan the flapper who intrigues the husband, while Mr. Striker, the fiance of the flapper, is 'the innocent tool employed by the wise wife in accomplishing her purpose. The story has to do with a domestic wife who makes the galling discovery that her husband’s love for her is rapidly declining. He falls into the clutches •of a beautiful flapper vamp and is seriously considering a separation from his wife, when she takes a novel and decisive hand in the game. How she out-flaps the flapper and regains her husband’s waning love, is admirably pictured. The action is swift, and there is plenty of drama and comedy. The big drama, “The Last Command,” staring Emil Jannings, was also shown on the same programme. The great dramatic actor has a fine role as a Russian general who is banished from the country and finally becomes a mere “extra” actor at Hollywood.
