BUSINESS MEN APPROVE REDUCTION OF TARIFFS
LEAGUE IS URGED TO TAKE MATTER UP WITH GOVERNMENTS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.25 a.m. LONDON. Wednesday. Business men, including Lord Inchcape, Lord Gainford, Lord Doverdale. Sir Hugo Bell, Sir Felix Schuster, and Sir Ernest Benn, under the auspices of the National Association of Merchants and Manufacturers, unanimouslypassed a resolution approving the recommendations of the World Economic Conference, 1927, in favour of a substantial reduction in tariffs, requesting the League of Nations to urge on the Governments the necesisty of carrying out the recommendations with the least possible delay. Mr. Walter Runciman emphasised that 14,000 miles of tariff frontiers h been erected since 1919. However distressed some of the British industries might be, freedom from restrictions would be best for them.
