HAMILTON NEWS A big: Presbyterian Bible Class Convention will be held in Hamilton at Christmas. Permission to use the Hamilton East School for accommodating- the visitors has been granted, provided the school is insured for £3.000 and £5 is deposited with the committee to ensure that the grounds are left in the same condition as they were found. The Waikato Agidcultural and Pastoral Association will hold its annual show on the Claud elands Show Grounds to-mor-row and Saturday next. No fewer than 2,700 separate entries have been received, which is a record number. The Central Electric-Power Board met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. T. Hinton, presiding. The engineer’s report stated that a section of the line at Whatawhata had been reconstructed and changed from 3,000 volts to 11,000 volts. The work of extending the line to Rotowaro and the reticulation of the town was practically completed. An application had been received from the residents of Pukemiro for the extension of the lines to supply the township. A rough survey had been made of the extension required and the estimated cost was £2,130. The line would also supply Pukemiro Junction and Graham’s mine. It is proposed to extend the line to Churchill. "If this work is undertaken an extension of about three miles of 11,000 volts power line will be required. After considering proposed plans for a new store it was decided to authorise the drawing up of a complete report to be presented to the board at a later meeting.

The engineer was directed to form a pathway as requested. Advice was reoeived from the Mines Department that an application from Mr. A. B. White for a subsidy for prospecting in the vicinity of the Kapowai Mine could not be entertained, as subsidies for such work were paid only to parties consisting o* not less than two men. Members agreed that the app'icant was deserving of special consideration and the clerk was instructed to request him to address a further application for financial assistance to the inspector of mines.
