NEW REGENT

BIG SHOW THIS EVENING A high speed picture and a brilliant and snappy dance show are the two attractions at the New Recent Theatre this evening, when a hew programme will be presented. . “Hot News” is the expressive title of the main picture. This is a most unusual but very exciting film. It tells the story of the filming of scenes in the movie gazettes which are a regular feature of every motion theatre programme. To make up the film a story has been written around the owners and cameramen of a news-getting agency, with the two leading players, Bebe Daniels and Neil Hamilton, in the roles of Patricia Clancy and “Scoops” Morgan respectively. The story commences with Michael Clancy, owner of the “Sun News Reel,” a screen paper, whose unusual Items and many scoops have been in no small measure due to the ingenuity of Scoop Morgan. His daughter has just announced her intention of returning home from college and proclaiming an ambition to become an expert cameraman.

His daughter’s wish being law with old man Clancy, he starts to outline a scheme to Scoop Morgan, suggesting that the latter teach Pat the game. Scoop’s indignant refusal and old man Clancy’s heated order to get out are overheard by Pat, who has just arrived. The joy of her arrival is overshadowed however by the knowledge that he has lost Scoop from the staff and that a rival news reel will take him.

The main plot is the keen rivalry between Patricia, who carries on for her father, and Morgan, who is hired by a rival concern.

The second big attraction this even ing is, of course, the new augmented Stage Band, which has proved so immensely popular during the past week The ballet trained by Mr. Maurice Guttridge will present another gorgeous, novel and whirling production, “Round the "World.” Fred Hodges and Ivoy Towle, assisted by Billie Hart, will present some bright numbers, and the whole performance, including the 20 Regent Syncopators under Mr. Maurice Guttridge, is one scintillating round of revelry.
