PRINCE HUMPHREY’S TRAINER HOME AGAIN

J. T. JAMIESON AT TAKANINI J. T. Jamieson, the Takanini trainer, arrived at 'Wellington from Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday, and came on to Auckland by the express this morning. He had no horses with him, for they had already returned, with the exception of Prince Humphrey. The A.J.C. Derby winner went off considerably after winning that classic and running third in the Craven Plate, and when taken to Victoria tor the V.R.C. Derby, his first outing, a week before that event, he finished last at weight-for-age in the W. S. Cox Plate. Subsequently he showed improved form in his gallops, but met with atrocious luck during the running of the V.R.C. Derby (won by Strephon). being galloped on and getting into all the trouble imaginable. After that contest Prince Hunipnrey was a cot case, and he is still under treatment for the injuries he received. There is a probability of the colt being brought back shortly, however, although it is doubtful whether he will be able to take his place in the Great Northern Derby field on New Year’s Day—less than seven weeks off now. Doubtless Trainer Jamieson will now be busy putting the final touches in the preparation of his stable’s representatives for the Takapuna meeting, which opens on Friday fortnight. Has Victoria Got Another Mollison ? PARKWOOD IS THE GOODS COMPARISON WITH GOLD TINGE It is questionable whether Victoria’s crack two-year-old, Parkwood. would live in the terrific speed of Gold Tinge, winner of the Breeders’ Plate at Randwick. comments a Sydney critic. But nevertheless Parkwood is a colt of great promise, of whom big things are anticipated, and he may prove best throughout the rest of the spring racing.

In fact, the critics are tipping him to go through the whole year unbeaten, and to prove the Derby colt of the next He looks big enough to run in the Derby now. In size he quite over-shadowed all his tvyo-year-old rivals in the Victorian Debutant Stakes on Saturday.

But he has a way of stretching out to such an extent when he is at the gallop that he is low down, difficult to find in a field, especially when ridden by a jockey like Duncan, lies right down to his work.

Parkwood won the Debuntant by sheer gameness after being badly placed early, and having won up the straight already it was only to be expected that he would beat his rivals in the only other contest he will have this spring, the Maribyrnong Plate, run up the straight course on Derby Day. Not Offered For Sale Parkwood was bred by his owners, Messrs. Robinson and Baillieu. who own his dam, Yoorala, a mare who could gallop fast on the tracks, but was not of much account in races. The colt was never offered for sale, which is fortunate for his connections, for they have already won about £2.300, and look like winning much more with him. He is a splendid advertisement for Backwood, an English horse who won the 1924 Melbourne Cup, and subsequently sustained an injury in Lilypond’s Sydney Cup which prevented his racing again. He went to Alf. Thompson’s stud in N.S.W., ’and Parkwood’s deeds are sure to ensure his stud success.
