PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD At Monday eveningr’s meeting - of the Papatoetoe Town Board, authority was received from the Main Highways Board for the expenditure of £3O on the maintenance of 13 chains of the Papatoetoe highways, to carry a subsidy of £1 10s to £l. The trustees of the Bradstreet Estate advised that they intended to carry out the work of tarring and shelling the footpaths on the subdivision The recommendation of the Town Band Committee that Mr. G. de Clifton bo reappointed as bandmaster was approved The Manukau County Council asked for a refund of all drivers’ licences collected by the board from residents within the country area. It was agreed that no action be taken till a conference is held of representatives from the Auckland City Council, Otahuhu Borough Council, Manurewa and Papatoetoe Town Boards, and the Manukau County Council. A recommendation from the Papatoetoe Welfare League that the board grant a subsidy of £ 1 to £4 on money raised by the Papatoetoe Volunteer Fire Brigade, toward its uniform fund, received very little sympathy. It was agreed that the board had fulfilled its obligations by establishing the brigade. The letter was referred to the fire committee for inquiry. The Director of Town-planning forwarded a congratulatory letter regarding the work carried out by the board in preparing a town-planning map of the district. He regretted that noaetion could be taken till a regional scheme was prepared, including all the surrounding districts. Mr. Janes, of and Adams, the water engineers, waited on the board, and submitted a comprehensive report of the water supply scheme. MANGAPU DRAINAGE BOARD A meeting of the Mangapu Drainage Board was held at Te Kuiti on Monday, when Mr. W A. Lee presided. It was reported that everything was now in order for the taking of a poll of ratepayers to raise . a loan for the Mangapu drainage scheme. Regarding unpaid native rates in the area, a communication forwarded by Mr. J. C. Rolleston, M.P., from the Minister of Xative Affairs stated that the amount, outstanding would be paid over, provided it was shown to the Minister that the natives in the area would be benefited by the work proposed. The Minister would pay the rates due. at present, £2lO, general rate, and a sum of £SOO a year for two years to cover the general and special rates. The chairman and Mr. Hiorns notified that, in response to a request from the natives for three representatives on the board instead of one, as at present, they were prepared to vacate their seats to allow: this to be done
