RIALTO, AND REGENT, EPSOM

“PARTNERS IN CRIME” They have sailed the seas, the inimitable Beery and Hatton. They have scaled the Alps, braved the terrors of the trenches, and made the world happier for fire insurance writers, but they have never before been as funny as they are as the nemesis of the underworld in “Partners in Crime,” now at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres. For the first time since they have been starred as team comedians. Beery and Hatton are provided in “Partners in Crime” with a straight melodramatic story. A story teeming in thrills, abounding in humorous situations and with an interesting love theme woven through it. Beery takes the part of a dud detective and Hatton plays'dual roles: those of a newspaper reporter, and of a savage ga.ng leader. “Vanity,” starring Leatrice Joy in a drama of a society girl who met her match in a rough seaman. is the second feature. SOCIETY STORY AT GRAND Ramon Novarro in “A Certain Young Man” is the attraction at the Grand Theatre this evening. The famous screen star is seen as Lord Jerry Brinsley, a philandering young nobleman, who is famous in j London for his love affairs with a j sprightly Mrs. Crutchley and others. Finally he becomes involved in a love affair with a won ran who, to his disgust, turns out to be the wife of his valet. To hide his chagrin he leaves for a fishing trip in Europe. On the train he meets Phyllis, pretty daughter of an American business man, and falls genuinely in love with her. The girl’s father, observing this, cables London, and gets a report on the former activities of Lord Jerry. A full supporting programme will also be shown. Universal's first all-talking motion picture is now being produced under the direction of Leigh Jason. It is entitled “East Side,” an original by Ted Reed, and its cast includes such well-known players as Jean Hersholt, Walter Long, Mary Nolan, Grace Valentine and Tom McGuire. Edmund Cobb and Frank Clark have been added to the cast of “The Final Reckoning,” the G. A. Henty chapterplay in which Universal is starring Newton House and which is being directed by Ray Taylor.
