WOMEN IN POLITICS
APPEAL TO ELECTORS
One of the most remarkable features of world politics is the fact that New Zealand. which gave tlfe lead to women’s franchise, has not yet been represented in Parliament by the better sex. Hence the unusual interest that now centres on the eager attempt made by tiie feminist movement in New Zealand to secure direct representation, and a definite voice in the Parliamentary affairs of the Dominion. On this occasion, as demonstrating the increased feminine interest in politics. five women in different parts of the country are seeking the suffrage of the Dominion electorate. Many of the leading countries in the Old World, and also in the new, have not only been represented in Parliament by women, but have seen the soundness and special'distinction of womer's work in the legislatures. Will New Zealand to-morrow give its first chivalrous support to women candidates? That is one of several interesting and vital questions before the electors in the 1928 campaign. In another part of this issue a special appeal to the electors is made by the two Auckland Reform women candidates.
