Borrie Wins N.Z. Billiards Title
WHITE BEATEN IN’FINAL
WINNER’S STEADY PLAY
With 173 points to the good, A. Borrie won the New Zealand amateur billiards championship last night in brilliant style.
The final session drew a large number of spectators. Borrie. who was in play with an unfinished break of 28. only added two more to his score before breaking down, the scores being: Borrie, 503; White. 419. Both players settled down to a steady game, but gradually Borrie ; drew' away, and at one time was 150 points in the lead. White, plaj'ing | determinedly, reduced the gap until j only 30 points separated the players, but a faulty stroke on the part of , White let Borrie in, and a perfectly i played 75 break resulted. Playing with great confidence. Borrie ran out a winner by 173 points. In addition to the 75 break. Borrie made runs of 25. 36, 24. 56. 40. 33, 25, and 31. averaging 10.8. White, who battled pluckily, played some wonderful winning hazards, making breaks of 42. 38,. 22. 30. 23. and 26.
The players had a splendid reception at the close of the game. A gold medal was presented to the winner, A. Borrie. and a cue and case to the
runner-up. In reply, Borrie thanked the Auckland Sports. Club management for its perfect arrangements, paying the marker, N. Emmett, a special tribute for the way in which he carried out his duties.
