STORM IN CANTERBURY
THOUSANDS OF PICNICKERS CAUGHT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. To-day. Accompanied by thunder, lightning and torrential rain, a fierce sou’-west storm broke over Canterbury late yesterday afternoon, uprooting trees, wrecking buildings and drenching thousands of picnickers who were lured out of town by the glorious weather of the morning. At one point seven big trees were thrown across the road, scores of cars being held up.
