DEATH OF MR. F. J. PEAKE
SECRETARY OF N.Z. CRICKET COUNCIL POPULAR RUGBY REFEREE Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. To-day. The death has occurred suddenly of John F. Peake, aged 49, secretary ot the New Zealand Cricket Council for the past 14 years, and a former well-known Rugby referee. Death is believed to be due to heart failure. He leaves a widow and a young son and daughter. As a cricketer he had a good' record in Otago as a member of the Albion S lu w- a P < Li n Canterbury as a number of West Christchurch Club. He came north from Otago in 1905. In 1924-25 he was manager of the New Zealand cricket team that visited Australia and which met with surprising success. , J ;° r many years acknowledged as one R ugby referees in the Dominion, the late Mr. Peake was a well-known PSP'; 6 , tna ” y centres, where he has IPI. Mr. Peake paid a visit to Auckland during the recent football season and at Eden Park renewed many old acquaintances with officials and supporters of the code. He was then In good health.
