SHOULD BE REDUCED TO JSO MR. E. ALLAN’S CONTENTION The practical training of young men in the science of farming was strongly urged by Air. E. Allan. United candidate for I-lauraki. in addressing a meeting at Clevedon on Saturday evening. The candidate outlined the United Party’s policy, and said that the system of land valuation required a thorough overhaul. On the question of the rising cost of government. Mr. Allan said he considered the first reduction should be in the number of members of Parliament. making them 50 instead of SO. The candidate said he thought the time had come when the labour unions would have to concede alterations in their rules in regard to the number of apprentices to each skilled worker. It was a big problem to know what to do with the boys leaving school. At present the labour unions allowed only one apprentice to every five men. This may be reduced to. say. one to every three men. A number of questions were answered at the close, and a vote of thanks was accorded the candidate.
